Welcome to Australia’s only national economic development education and training program designed for elected officials and community leaders.
This program is designed for:
- New and experienced local councillors
- New and experienced Lord Mayors
- Local Government executives and CEOs
- RDA committee members and Chairs
All participants who successfully complete four modules will be recognised as an Australian Certified Economic Development Champion (ACEcDC).
This recognition can only be issued by Economic Development Australia (EDA) as the national peak body for economic development professionals and acknowledges the individual’s commitment to building prosperity and wellbeing in their communities.
Successful graduates will be authorised to use the Australian Certified Economic Development Champion (ACEcDC) logo, provided with a certificate of recognition, and acknowledged at the National Economic Development Conference (NEDC).
Due to the travel and social distancing restrictions due to COVID-19, EDA is delivering the national training program via live video format. All modules will be delivered in one-day.
EDA is experienced in delivering quality, accredited training and the virtual format will allow participants to share content and experiences, guaranteeing an engaging and interactive training, education and collegial experience.
EDA Module Fees
- Individual Modules (Members): $450 + GST per module
- Full Course (Members): $1500 + GST (All 4 modules must be booked within one calendar block)
- Individual Modules (Non-Members): $520 + GST per module
- Full Course (Non-Members): $1800 + GST (All 4 modules must be booked within one calendar block)

Module 3.1: Understanding the Economic Landscape of Your Community
This module will provide insight into how to understand the community’s place in the broader regional economy. Elected officials will benefit from an understanding of the theory underpinning economic development and how this is reflected in public policy. Download the module overview.
Module 3.2: Planning Economic Success for Your Community
The module will set out the best practice principles of an economic development strategy. The module will build knowledge regarding the triple bottom line approach to economic development and help leaders develop economic development plans which deliver on broader community outcomes, balancing economic growth with environmental impact. Module 3.3: Leading Recovery and Building Resilience for Your Community
This module provides participants with the key principles of economic recovery to implement following a dsaster, crisis or downturn. The module also builds knowledge for community leaders seeking to build economic resilience within their communities. Download the module overview.
Module 3.4: Be a Champion
Best practice economic development requires strong advocacy and civic champions. This module will equip participants with the knowledge to shape and support a best practice economic development strategy as well as the skills to foster partnerships and buy in which will guarantee success for your community.
