New Chair for Economic Development Australia’s Victoria State Practitioner Network

Economic Development Australia (EDA), has announced a new Chair of the Victorian State Practitioner Network (SPN) with the appointment of Peter Forbes to lead the largest network of economic development practitioners in Australia.

EDA is the peak national body for economic development practitioners strengthening and promoting economic development through state and national events, professional development, advocacy and member support. EDA has over 650 members nationally and State Practitioner Networks in all states.

EDA CEO Jacqueline Brinkman welcomes Peter Forbes, from Melton City Council to the role of SPN Chair; “Peter brings two decades of experience to this position, having worked in a diverse range of economic development roles across rural, regional and metropolitan Victoria. He will lead the fantastic committee in Victoria to continue the excellent events and initiatives designed for EDA members.”

“EDA has been pivotal in my development” Mr Forbes said. “I went to the inaugural National Conference and what I learnt and who I met in those three days would have taken me at least six months to achieve on my own.”

Now Mr Forbes and the committee are looking forward to giving back to the members.
“I’m fortunate to be part of a committed, skills-based committee and a rapidly expanding membership. We are best placed to assist our members in their professional development through our activities, knowledge and networks.” Mr Forbes said.

EDA is experiencing rapid growth with membership increasing from around 300 to over 650 in the last 18 months. EDA delivers a range of highly popular professional development programs including a webinar series, an international study tour scholarship program, Australia’s only dedicated economic development national conference and a range of state-based events. EDA is developing a nationally recognised professional development programme which will lift the performance of economic development across Australia and raise the competitiveness of Australian cities and regions.

Mr Forbes and Ms Brinkman praised outgoing Chair Peter Jeffery for his significant contributions to EDA. “Peter has been a powerhouse state Chair and we look forward to his continued involvement in EDA,” said Ms Brinkman.

Mr Jeffery said contributing to EDA was extremely satisfying.  “My time as Victorian Chair has provided fantastic perspectives and learnings. I have complete confidence in Peter’s ability to uphold Victoria’s leading reputation.”
