MEMBERS ONLY: Planning Reform and the Economy

7 February @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Planning plays an important role in ensuring the right signals are sent to the marketplace to attract interest and investment in our state. Industries and businesses should be welcomed by a planning system that is efficient, transparent, predictable and simple to navigate. South Australia’s new planning system brings opportunities to focus on industries with significant growth potential, to forge inroads into emerging industries, and to support innovation and growth in our already productive businesses.

As we continue to implement the new system the State Planning Commission are conducting a ‘health check’ of South Australia’s current strategic and policy environment to ensure decisions we make now reflect the land use needs and aspirations of South Australia going forward. An evaluation of the strengths and weaknesses, opportunities and threats across a range of industry sectors is fundamental to framing how we move South Australia forward with a clear planning policy reform platform, together with the benefit of a modern and contemporary planning system.

A discussion paper about a key element of the state’s new planning system, which focuses on planning’s relationship with South Australia’s economy, is now out for consultation until 22 February 2019.

There are some interesting discussion topics / questions throughout the paper and the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure are interested EDA members views on these – as well as of any other experiences with the planning system and planning policy along with the opportunity this presents to economic developers and planners to have an opportunity to meet and discuss.

This is an EDA SA member-only event and will be followed by a networking opportunity with the National EDA Board (venue to be confirmed).
