Grant Petty

Grant Petty, founder and CEO of Blackmagic Design, has become one of the world’s leading innovators of creative video tech. His goal was – and still is today – to empower creativity by making film, television and AV production equipment affordable for everyone. And because of Grant Petty, a huge amount of the new films, TV shows, commercials, music videos and live concerts you watch was created with Blackmagic Design product.

Blackmagic Design, with more than 1,000 employees in seven countries, has millions of customers around the world. This includes Oscar winning cinematographers to 15 year old students; and projects from Star Wars: The Last Jedi, to Game of Thrones, NCIS, Elton John’s end tour and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.

Grant is focused on design and problem solving, and has assembled world leading software, hardware, R&D, industrial design, interface design, manufacturing and marketing, and focused them all on design and creativity.

Phil Ore (MC/Facilitator)

With over 25 years of experience in strategy, technology, marketing and building businesses, Phil was the perfect choice to be MC for this event.

Phil is co-founder of Marketing Entourage, a human-centred marketing and customer experience company that has worked with many LGA’s to develop and implement start-up strategies.

A pitch mentor for Startup Victoria and expert in residence for #StartWest., Phil also co-founded Entrepreneurs&Co., a social enterprise that provides international opportunities to local entrepreneurs.


Paul Johnson

Regional Manager with RDV in Gippsland prior to taking up his current role as Manager Business Development at Wellington Shire Council, Paul recently toured the US and New Zealand on an EDA sponsored study tour scholarship to investigate how digital innovation contributes to economic growth.

Paul will share his experience on the challenges of establishing a Digital Hub in regional Victoria and offer insights from his international study tour.


Mark Corrie

As CEO of Western BACE – (Business Accelerator & Centre of Excellence), Mark established a community driven business hub in Melbourne’s outer west – one of Australia’s fastest growing regions.

Skilled in negotiation, marketing, management and business planning, Mark is known for his innovative program development with start-ups and small business.

Mark has a broad and rare perspective of the supply and demand side of the start-up Ecosystems.

Not only has he studied start-up culture here and overseas and immersed in many start-up networks, he works side-by-side with local entrepreneurs and has worked in economic development in the Victorian local government context.

By understanding the challenges of economic development officers, funding bodies and the frustrations of businesses navigating public sector processes, Mark has developed a view on when government is best placed to add value and when its best left to others.

Samantha Hurley | Workshop Facilitator

In her 20 years of working on four continents, managing three digital transformations and four acquisitions and mergers, Sam has seen the rise in marketing and customer experience’s importance in a business’ success.

Stints with Lonely Planet and The Press Association, with clients like Nike, UEFA, The FA, FIFA and Mastercard have driven Sam to advocate on the importance of a human centred mindset to driving brand loyalty and customer engagement.

Now as co-founder of Marketing Entourage, a human centred marketing and customer experience (CX) company, Sam develops strategies and education to help businesses remain human whilst utilising technology to maximise their impact.

Sam will present on how she’s helped Economic Development practitioners engage founders and entrepreneurs to be better prepared for growing their business, along with plenty of tips and diagnostic tools.

Theo Williams | Panellist

Theo is co-founder and Head of Product & Customer Success for Localised, a place-based online  network that supports businesses to cut through the noise and connect to the local people and local expertise that will help them grow.

Theo is a loving dad, an experimenter, placer of bets, and a life long learner. He has many years experience in product ideation, development, project management and customer support. He is someone who loves to test ideas and is not afraid to learn from having a go.
