Presenters

Amanda Gooddy | Sunshine Coast Council

Sunshine Coast Regional Council’s Amanda Gooddy’s winning proposal involved the development of a framework which supports small business continuity during construction and road upgrade projects. Amanda visited New Orleans to study successful business continuity resources and support mechanisms, including a Road Construction Toolkit for New Orleans Businesses developed during the extensive construction period following the 2005 Hurricane Katrina disaster.

The study has resulted in a framework being developed, aimed at directly supporting small businesses in the lead up to construction, Supporting Small Businesses Through Disruption of Major Project – A framework to support business continuity. The framework highlights cases in both the Sunshine Coast and New Orleans, where evidence shows the benefits to small business when business advisors and economic development officers take a proactive lead on this topic. It includes steps and actions to take to prepare business owners, to provide them with the best chance of survival.

Find out more about Amanda’s project in the latest version of the EDA journal here.

Bruce Marshall | Melton City Council

Bruce visited Japan to explore the impact an ageing and shrinking population has on economic prosperity.  Bruce’s report examines whether a strong labour market is critical in order for an economy to thrive, which new industries are emerging within the context of an ageing population, and what lessons exist for countries such as Australia which will experience its own population ageing issues.
