The Shire of Ashburton serves communities across a vast region in the Pilbara, Western Australia. The region is known for mining, agriculture and fishing, and for its rugged, ancient landscape. Onslow is a small historic coastal town, fishing paradise, and gateway to the Mackerel Islands.


The Shire of Ashburton is seeking a dynamic and motivated person for the role of Tourism & Economic Development Specialist. This is a vital position within our organisation, responsible for facilitating and supporting economic growth and tourism strategies that promote the vibrant region we call home. Key duties of this role include engagement with local businesses, development of tourism initiatives, providing advice to senior management and Councillors, along with other special projects.

Our ideal candidate will be able to work autonomously, have relevant qualifications and experience in a similar role, and be a highly effective communicator and problem solver who is able to make things happen, all while demonstrating a high level of honesty and integrity. Local government experience is desirable, but not essential. Remote travel between Shire towns, with regular overnight stays, is an essential part of this role.

This position offers a competitive remuneration package and six (6) weeks’ annual leave. All terms and conditions are as per the Shire of Ashburton Enterprise Agreement 2017.
