Economic Development Coordinator | City of Glenorchy | TAS

Traditionally, the manufacturing heart of Tasmania, the City of Glenorchy is experiencing rapid economic diversification and growth. It is home to the world-famous MONA, substantive commercial, industrial and retail centres and the Tasmanian Technopark.

Reporting to the Manager City Strategy & Economic Development, you will bring a fresh perspective to facilitating business investment, growth and diversification in the City. Focused on enabling development, you will bring innovation and creativity to the role, you will develop deep and strong connections with the local business community and be able to ‘join the dots’ to ensure the business, infrastructure investment, industry sectors and community are driving growth and prosperity.

You bring a strategic mind and a track record of converting plans into action. You have a reputation for building strong, trusting relationships and solid experience in developing and implementing economic plans. You understand the regulatory environment surrounding land use planning and development and are experienced  in assisting businesses and developers to navigate requirements.  You are enthusiastic, have sound commercial and business acumen and the ability to influence at senior levels, focusing on providing information, options and solutions.

Position Number:  100019

Position Hours:  Full-Time: 37.5 hours per week, with a 9-day fortnight

The Person:  In order to be successful for the role, you will need to have:

  • Demonstrated ability to undertake high level research and interpret and document the findings coupled with an ability to develop plans incorporating data analysis, with a strategic focus.
  • Ability to implement economic development plans and initiatives, including working effectively with business, government and commercial interests and across various professional boundaries in the facilitation and promotion of development and investment.
  • Project management skills including, proven ability in time management, networking and communication, planning, problem solving and creative thinking and negotiation
  • Well-developed communication skills, both oral and written, including report writing, preparation of complex documentation and presentations with the ability to relate to business owners, people of different cultural backgrounds, consultants, sponsors, government and staff.

Qualifications:  The successful candidate will hold a tertiary qualification in a field relevant to economic development or demonstrated experience in a similar role.

Salary:  Schedule A, Salary Point 15: $83,993.49 to $94,532.74 in accordance with Glenorchy City Council’s Enterprise Agreement 2016.
