About the business and the role

An exciting opportunity is available for a passionate Business Development Manager to join our team in Sydney.The Fijian Consulate General Sydney and Trade Commission to Australia and New Zealand based in Sydney carries out trade and investment promotional activities on behalf of the Government of Fiji and aims to contribute to Fiji’s economic prosperity through:

  • Investment Promotion to attract high quality foreign direct investment  and promote diaspora investments into Fiji
  • Export Promotion by assisting Fijian businesses to tap into market access opportunities in Australia
  • Trade facilitation assistance in the areas of quarantine, customs, ports and immigration
  • Market Research and Intelligence reports for Fijian businesses to tap into investment and export opportunities
  • Providing consular assistance
  • Targeted media campaigns aimed at promoting Fiji as an ideal business destination

Job tasks and responsibilities

  • Prospect the market for potential new business opportunities, effectively positioning Fiji’s value proposition as an ideal trade and investment destination
  • Build, develop and maintain relationships with key clientele
  • Developing strategic client engagement and relationship strategies
  • Develop partnerships across key sectors to create value for Fijian businesses
  • Develop and maintain a strategic marketing plan for key clientele to achieve trade and investment targets

Skills and experience

  • At least five (5) years’ relevant work experience in a similar role, preferably a strong background and achievements in meeting targets in either a public or private sector environment, with a focus on results oriented strategic marketing and promotions and/or other related fields
  • The Applicant should be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Residency holder and possess qualifications in areas such as business development, marketing, economics, commerce or any other related field
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communications skill combined with strong presentation and speaking skills
  • A leader and self-starter with the ability to produce high quality reports and briefs that are user-friendly in a timely manner
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Understanding of teams and how to work effectively within a team environment
  • Strong management, administrative, organisational and project management ability
  • Proficient with technology & computer literacy in MS Word, MS Outlook and MS Excel
  • Ability to establish and maintain healthy working environment and relationships with all stakeholders
  • Effective communication, interpersonal and organisational skills
