Founded by Turia Pitt and Gracie McBride, Spend With Them, is an Instagram account dedicated to showcasing small businesses in fire-affected towns, encouraging people to shop locally in the hopes of helping put money back into the communities that need it most.

#Gowithemptyeskies

A campaign developed by two friends in Melbourne encourages ‘city folk,’ to head to fire affected communities and surrounds, including the North East, with an empty esky.

One of the founders of the movement Eleanor Ballieu says the idea is to support regional retailers and producers, by hitting the road, spending money and filling their eskies with produce to take home. “We are encouraging everyone to grab an empty esky, do a road trip, and head into an area impacted by the bushfires, when it’s safe to do so, and really shock locals, fill up that esky with everything local – wine, food, whatever you want.”


Foundation for Rural & Regional Renwal (FRRR)

Disaster Resilience and Recovery Fund

FRRR makes grants to local not-for-profit groups for community-led projects that address the most pressing needs that emerge 12-18 months after a disaster event.

This fund was launched in September 2019 as a perpetual fund that will distribute earnings to disaster recovery initiatives, ensuring that every donation continues to have impact for years to come. Donations to the Disaster Recovery & Resilience Fund will be invested, and the returns used to ensure funds are available for community-led initiatives when disaster-affected communities are ready for support.


Back to School program 
FRRR will provide additional Back to School vouchers to support impacted children and families to have the uniform and stationery supplies needed for their schooling. As the current relief efforts are still very much under way, we will offer this additional support via a winter round, which will be distributed by May 2020.


Special stream of FRRR’s Strengthening Rural Communities program 
FRRR will provide support through its flexible Strengthening Rural Communities program for communities that identify more immediate needs and for donors wishing for their funds to be used in full in the medium term recovery. That program can fund a wide range of projects, such as enhancing a local emergency shelter, implementing a UHF radio system so that people can stay in touch during the next emergency, efforts to relieve volunteer fatigue or running a campaign to attract people back to the area. It is offered on an open basis and applications are assessed quarterly. It is expected that grants will commence in the second half of 2020 at the earliest however FRRR will monitor needs over the coming months.

ATEC 

The Australian Tourism Export Council (ATEC) undertook a survey of its members who represent both Australian based tourism businesses as well as Inbound Tour Operators, with 70% of respondents recording significant cancellations of travel to Australia by internationals. To assist in tourism’s bushfire recovery, ATEC has launched social media campaign #bushfirebounceback, to spread the word Australia is Open for Business.

ATEC invite you to spread the word that Australia is OPEN FOR BUSINESS by posting images and/or short clips of your tourism experience/destination from around the country to #bushfirebounceback. ATEC’s bushfire response website can be viewed here.


The Caravan Industry Association

The Caravan Industry Association has released the Keep on Camping initiative to support those impacted in the fire regions. The initiative will be guided by the industry and continue to assist the caravan and camping industry.

CIA has also established a quarantined industry marketing fund used to directly encourage future visitation to affected areas once it is safe for tourists to return. A dedicated working group will be formed to make sure funds are used where most needed.

The fund has already been kicked off via a generous donation by Domestic of $10,000 and from Vic Parks of $10,000. CI Victoria have also pledged money & people & businesses have already got in on the act with Mandurah Caravan & Tourist Park pledging the proceeds of their Australia Day activities.
