EDA National Economic Development Conference Scholarship

Economic Development Australia (EDA) is proud to announce the first ever scholarship program to support EDA members attend the National Economic Development Conference (NEDC22) in Sydney on October 12-14 2022.

The only national conference designed for economic development professionals, this three-day event will help you navigate complex economic issues, provide tactics to energise your communities, insights to help you develop economic
growth strategies and the opportunity to collaborate with peers nationally.

Join your peers, Australian and global experts as we reflect on shared learnings from recent challenges, look outwards to implement best practice and collaborate in real time, to boost Australia’s prosperity through local economic development excellence.

Held at the new and impeccably stylish Kimpton Margot Hotel in Sydney, NEDC22 will also feature the National Awards for Excellence Gala Dinner at the iconic Luna Park. The whole event promises to deliver inspirational learning, connection and celebration.

NEDC22 will feature a compelling 3-day program of highly regarded thought leaders whose knowledge and expertise will challenge delegates and encourage thought-provoking discussions.

NEDC22 Scholarships Available

Two scholarships will be awarded in each of the following categories:

 1. Indigenous Economic Development Professional (Value: $3600 – 2 available)

Provides full Conference registration, flights, accommodation and 12 months EDA membership

The NEDC22 Indigenous Economic Development Scholarship supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders who are working in local economic development attend the National Economic Development Conference (NEDC22).

The Indigenous Economic Development Scholarship includes 12-months EDA Individual Membership (if not yet a member).

Eligibility:

  • Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) descent.
  • Identify as an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person.
  • Are working in an economic development role.
  • Are EDA members (if you are not currently a member of EDA, membership is included in the scholarship – for this category only)

The assessment panel will also consider the following factors in their decision: 

  • Support from the applicant’s organisation(s) via an endorsement letter;
  • The applicant’s commitment to their organisation and/or community;
  • The expected impact of attending the Conference on the applicant and their role / organisation.

 2. Regional Economic Development Professional (Value: $3200 – 2 available)

Provides full Conference registration, flights and accommodation

The NEDC22 Regional Economic Development Professional Scholarship supports those professionals who are supporting regional investment, diversification and economic transition in order to build competitiveness, community wealth and wellbeing in regional areas.

Eligibility:

  • Reside and work as an economic development professional outside a main Australian metropolitan city or urban area. To check if your area is eligible please click here (if your postcode falls into the Regional centres and other regional areas category then you are eligible for this scholarship). Some major regional centres in WA / QLD may be considered eligible, so please contact EDA if in doubt.
  • Be an Australian citizen or Australian permanent resident;
  • Be an EDA member (join here)

The assessment panel will also consider the following factors in their decision:

  • support from the applicant’s organisation(s) via an endorsement letter;
  • the applicant’s commitment to their organisation and/ or regional Australia
  • the expected impact of attending the Conference on the applicant and their role / organisation / regional community.

 3. Emerging Economic Development Professional (Value: $2155 – 2 available)

Provides full Conference registration and accommodation

The Emerging Economic Development Professional Scholarship provides the opportunity for EDA members who are new to the profession to gain integral knowledge, skills and insight by attending the National Economic Development Conference (NEDC22).

Eligibility:

  • Have spent 3 years or less in an economic development role.
  • Be an Australian citizen or Australian permanent resident;
  • Be an EDA member (join here)

The assessment panel will also consider the following factors in their decision: 

  • support from the applicant’s organisation(s) via an endorsement letter;
  • the early career achievements and aspirations of the applicant;
  • the expected impact of attending the Conference on the applicant and their role / organisation.

 4. General Economic Development Professional (Value: $1195 – 2 available)

Provides full Conference registration

The General NEDC22 Scholarship provides the opportunity for any EDA member whom otherwise would be unable, to attend the National Economic Development Conference (NEDC22) to further their professional development and build national networks.

Eligibility:

  • Be an existing EDA member;
  • Be an Australian citizen or Australian permanent resident;
  • Be currently employed in an economic development role.

The assessment panel will also consider the following factors in their decision: 

  • support from the applicant’s organisation(s) via an endorsement letter;
  • the expected impact of attending the Conference on the applicant and their role / organisation / community.
  • Barriers the delegate has to attending the Conference without the scholarship.

Please apply for only one category. Choose the category which most suits your circumstances. Your application may be considered for support under other categories at the discretion of the EDA Assessment Panel.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

  • The scholarship is for attendance at the National Economic Development Conference (NEDC22). Any other associated expenses are the sole responsibility of the recipient.
  • The scholarship award cannot be transferred.
  • NEDC22 is a professional conference, adult learning environment and you will be attending alongside fee-paying professionals from external organisations. You should engage fully in the event and make the most of the opportunities for networking, skill enhancement and knowledge transfer.

By applying for this scholarship, you:

  • Declare that the information that it contains is true, correct and complete, and undertake to correct or change as soon as possible any information that is incorrect or misleading.
  • Declare that you are either an Australian Citizen or have Australian Permanent Resident status.
  • Authorise EDA to provide the Selection Committee with a copy of your application.
  • Authorise EDA to use your name, short bio and other details, should you be successful in your application, in publicity in relation to the scholarship.
  • If your application is successful you consent and agree to participate in Conference evaluation surveys.
  • Agree that information collected by EDA may also be used for marketing and survey purposes and you consent to the use of information provided in your application for these purposes.
  • Acknowledge that EDA may vary or reverse any decision made on the basis of incorrect or misleading information.
  • Understand that EDA reserves the right to cancel or postpone the Conference.
  • Declare you have read and agree to EDA’s privacy policy.
