ED Awards - Leadership (elected)
Cr Greg Fahey - Maroochy Shire
Winner: Greg Fahey is the Portfolio Councillor for Economic Development at Maroochy Shire Council in Queensland. In this role, Greg Fahey has pioneered and led the successful creation of ‘Business Maroochy’, the Council’s new Economic Development Branch.
When elected to Council two years ago, the profile of Economic Development was best described as low-key. Councillor Fahey drew on his experience in strategic planning, negotiation and business to establish the Economic Development Branch at the start of this year.
Today Business Maroochy comprises seven staff who focus on promoting and supporting economic development within the shire by marketing, promoting and supporting local business initiatives. Greg Fahey chaired the Maroochy Economic Development Advisory Board and produced the Maroochy Economic Plan 2004-2009, which forms the blueprint for current work undertaken by his unit, Business Maroochy.
His leadership has enabled Maroochy Council to play a prominent role in a series of economic development projects through Business Maroochy.
