ED Awards - Private Public Partnerships
Hume City Council
| Forming innovative public and private development partnerships are pivotal to Hume City Council’s objective of enhancing economic outcomes for central Broadmeadows, north of Melbourne. Two years ago, the council adopted the Broadmeadows Transit City Masterplan , now being implemented with millions of dollars being invested by Hume City Council and local businesses. Another innovative development, the so-called ‘Proposition 3047’ was a ground-breaking national urban design and architectural ideas competition, which attracted many of Australia’s finest architects. Their brief was to create design options for key precincts within Broadmeadows. This form of partnership model is now being duplicated by councils across Australia. Three years ago, the $14 million Hume Global Learning Centre was completed, and has received national and international acclaim. Next year will see the finish of Council’s new $23 million offices. Yet another innovative partnership has occurred with the City’s Civic Plaza. A major upgrade is soon to commence, and this is being followed by a $30 million entertainment, youth fashion precinct and multi-decked car park, created by Colonial First State Property Management. These and other major developments testify to Hume City Council’s willingness to back its progressive vision through innovative partnerships. There are likely to be more such initiatives in coming years as the Broadmeadows Transit City Masterplan, within the State Government’s 2030 urban plan for Melbourne, is rolled out. |
