National Economic Development Conference 2007
The National Economic Development Conference has been designed to allow economic development practitioners and decision-makers from local government, Area Consultative Committees, regional economic development organisations and state and federal government to learn from leading examples of best practice being developed and implemented across Australia.
Following on from the success of the 2006 Local Government Economic Development Conference in Melbourne, the 2007 conference will focus on strategies at both the macro and micro level that drive job creation and investment within the community. More than 250 delegates are expected to attend in an environment that actively encourages and facilitates the cross-fertilisation of ideas and experiences. The conference format is heavily based on case studies to enable participants to immediately use that information within their own organisations.
International speakers from economic development organisations in the US and New Zealand will share their experiences with their Australian colleagues. Prominent private sector representatives will outline how cooperative projects with councils have benefited the broader community. Successful case studies in attracting investment, rebuilding local economies, developing more entrepreneurial approaches within local businesses, and identifying the key drivers within regional and local economies will be outlined to delegates.
The roles and priorities of economic development practitioners will be examined in the light of the first major survey conducted of ED professionals by Economic Development Australia.
On the evening of Day 1 of the conference, the Economic Development Excellence Awards (ED Awards) will be announced at a gala dinner.
A Master Class for economic development practitioners will also be held on the day following the conference ( November 2). Numbers attending will be restricted to 80.
